After decades of consolidation across the world, democratic systems face apparent threats in the form of authoritarian leaders and dissatisfied citizens. Spanning countries with vastly differing levels of democratic development, Asia is particularly susceptible to the risks of democratic deconsolidation.

The School of Politics and International Relations invites all interested guests to attend this workshop, in which researchers from the National Taiwan University will present their latest findings on democratic consolidation and deconsolidation across Asia. The research uses comparative Asian Barometer Survey data on people’s political views, democracy, governance, human security, and the economy from across the region.

In 2018, Australia will join the Asian Barometer Survey for the first time. This workshop continues the close relationship between the ANU and NTU and affirms the ANU’s engagement in the Asian Century.
